  • Do I need a prescription for physical therapy?
No, a prescription is not required for physical therapy in Illinois, which permits patients direct access to physical therapy services. This means you can seek evaluation and treatment by a physical therapist without first obtaining a physician's prescription or referral. However, your physical therapist may refer you to a physician if your condition is not appropriate for physical therapy treatment or if you are not progressing in physical therapy.
  • How should I prepare for my first session?
Prior to your session, please complete the registration paperwork, providing as much detail as possible. This helps streamline your initial PT session. Paperwork can easily be completed online from your patient portal. You can use the link below to create a new account or sign into your current account. Please bring to your session your prescription for physical therapy (if you have one) along with any relevant test results (e.g. x-ray or MRI results). Be sure to arrive on time.
  • What should I expect at my first session?
When you arrive, please relax in the waiting area until your physical therapist greets you. When your session is ready to start, your physical therapist will lead you to a private treatment room to perform your initial evaluation. You can expect to first talk with your physical therapist about your condition and goals. This is followed by a physical examination that may include assessment of posture, mobility, strength, movement patterns, balance, and more. Your and your therapist will then discuss the findings and recommended treatment plan. You will likely begin treatment at your first session and be sent home with exercises to perform on your own.
  • What should I expect at subsequent sessions?
Each subsequent session begins with a brief reassessment to help direct appropriate treatment, followed by one-on-one treatment with your physical therapist for the duration of the session. This session typically lasts 45 minutes. Treatment at any given session may include manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, postural retraining, and upgrades in your home exercise program.
  • What will I be expected to do in physical therapy?

Your active participation both during your PT sessions and in your at-home program is crucial to your overall progress in physical therapy. You will be expected to perform exercises at home, which typically require 10-20 minutes each day. During your sessions, you will be expected to continually provide your therapist with as detailed and accurate information as possible to ensure the best treatment program.
