Frequently asked questions
No, you do not need a prescription for physical therapy in Illinois. Direct access laws allow you to see a physical therapist without a physician’s referral. However, if you plan to submit your receipts to insurance for potential reimbursement, some plans may require a prescription.

On the day of your session, arrive on time, wear comfortable clothing, and bring any relevant documentation - such as your prescription for physical therapy (if you have one), recent imaging (like x-ray or MRI results), or other test findings.
We’re here to make your experience smooth from the start. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions beforehand.
When you arrive, feel free to make yourself comfortable in our waiting area. You’re welcome to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, or simply sit back and relax. Your therapist will greet you when they’re ready to begin.
Your session will start with a one-on-one conversation with your physical therapist about your health history, current concerns, and goals. This is followed by a physical assessment to better understand how your body moves. Together, you and your therapist will review the findings and discuss a personalized treatment plan. If time allows, you may begin treatment during this first visit.
Each follow-up session begins with a brief reassessment to track your progress and guide your treatment for the day. You'll then work one-on-one with your physical therapist for the duration of the session, which typically lasts around 45 minutes. Depending on your needs, treatment may include hands-on manual therapy, therapeutic exercises, postural retraining, and updates to your home exercise program. Every session is personalized to help you continue progressing toward your goals safely and effectively.
At Indepth Physical Therapy, we view you as a active partner in achieving your physical therapy goals. During your sessions, you’ll be expected to communicate openly with your therapist - sharing updates about your symptoms, progress, and daily activities - to help guide the most effective treatment. You’ll also be given a personalized home exercise program. These exercises typically take 10–20 minutes a day and are designed to complement your in-office treatment. Your consistent participation at home plays a key role in achieving your goals and ensuring long-lasting results.
Please wear comfortable clothing that does not restrict your movement. Loose-fitted clothing, shorts, t-shirts, and sleeveless tops are preferred.
No, Indepth Physical Therapy does not accept insurance. Payment is required in full at the time of service. However, if you have private insurance with out-of-network benefits, we can provide a detailed receipt (superbill) that you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. We encourage you to contact your insurance provider to learn more about your specific coverage.
As courtesy to our patients and therapists, Indepth Physical Therapy requires at least 24 hours advance notice for all cancelled sessions. Failure to provide 24 hours notice for cancelled physical therapy services will result in a $75 cancellation fee. Failure to attend a scheduled session without giving advance notice will result in full charge of your scheduled session. A session cancelled within one hour of your appointment time does not warrant advance notice and will result in full charge.
